Does Watkins Photography specialize in wildlife photography?

Answer:

Right now, Watkins Photography does not specialize in wildlife photography. The main reason is the equipment required. Wildlife photography typically requires extremely long lenses—like 500mm, 600mm, or even 800mm lenses—which are very expensive and highly specialized. These lenses can cost thousands of dollars, and they’re not very useful outside of wildlife scenarios.

While I do enjoy wildlife and have considered getting into it, it’s not something I currently offer as a service. Another factor is profitability. Wildlife photography is difficult to monetize because most of the income comes from selling prints, and that market isn’t very strong right now. People just don’t buy prints like they used to.

That said, it’s something I might explore in the future, possibly as a hobby or for content creation on social media. You can rent lenses, which makes it more accessible, but as a business service, it’s not something I currently focus on.

Summary:

Watkins Photography does not currently offer wildlife photography due to the high cost of specialized equipment and limited profitability. Wildlife photography requires expensive long-range lenses that are not versatile for other types of work. Additionally, the primary revenue stream—selling prints—is not as strong as it once was, making it a less viable business focus. While there is personal interest in exploring wildlife photography, it is more likely to be pursued as a hobby or creative outlet rather than a core service. The decision reflects a practical approach to balancing passion with business sustainability.
